The Beauty in the Rough - A new trend in jewellery?

31-01-2010 15:01

Many are wondering where the future of jewellery is headed. Is the economy strong enough to bring the retail sales up, and are people even interested in buying “fashion” items right now.
The answer to both of the questions is a resounding, Yes! We are bound to worry about fashion no matter how much is left in our checkbook, and yes, the worldwide economy is on it’s way up.

But, don’t get me wrong, things have changed. Gone is the mad dash for the latest trend; with a few economic crashes under our belt, the future is now considered in almost every decision. So, while some money conscience buyers will settle for the €6 ring so as not to jeopardize their future bank account, others are buying even more expensive precious gems then before.
Now, why would someone want the bigger price tag if the future is so unsure? Simple, they are investing. Pay more now, and this ring or necklace will not only be a beautiful treasured part of my collection, but it is also the kind of quality and design that makes a family heirloom that my grandchildren will be proud to wear.

This 2010 season there are two things to consider when we think of jewellery.
One, is the piece worth the investment. Two, how eco-friendly is it?

Above, we have just discussed the importance of the jewellery we buy having greater worth, but does being eco-friendly apply?
Well, the easy answer is because everyone is rightly concerned about our environment. Over the last few decades we have become more and more aware of our eco-footprints. The efforts have shown up in different ways: no fur, recycling, buying recycled products, buying eco-friendly products, sustainable products, and renewable green luxury.
Ok, but where does that translate into buying jewellery?
Here is an example, using stones in their natural form, or with very minimal cutting or polishing. How about that for a great start.
What about Rough Diamond Jewellery? Have you seen anything like it? I am blown away by the pure untainted beauty of it. It does not even seem to be the same stone, and truly should not be compared to cut and polished diamonds. This is an art form all its own, and should be celebrated as such!

But tell me what you think, does rough diamond jewellery have a future in the fashion trends of the world? How would you feel wearing it?
Rough Diamonds were worn in ancient times by warriors for strength and protection, by kings, by noblemen, and today they are still the master gem. We have seen a new trend in rough diamond jewelry since 2007 from De Beers to Tiffany, and a few other brave souls. The blend and contrast of the cut and polished, together with the rough stone is stunning and very unique. It is also very popular with folks who want to get back to basics yet still be wearing precious gems.

So as we look to this new year, the new opportunities, and all the new ideas, tell me, can you see rough diamonds jewellery becoming popular in any or all circles?

Thanks for listening, and I look forward to your response . . .
